Keeping Autonomous Machines Within Bounds: Safety Certified Geofencing with Agreenculture's Safencing®
Updated: 4 hours ago

Toulouse, France, 5 November 2026 – How can an autonomous machine be safely kept within its working area? Agreenculture addresses this challenge with Safencing®, which has received an EC type-examination certificate from INERIS. To our knowledge, it is the first satellite-based safety geofencing system recognised as a safety component. The Agreenculture team will be available for meetings at EIMA in Bologna on 10–11 November. Key Highlights:
Certification by a notified body: an EC type-examination certificate issued by INERIS (No. 0080.5625.520.06.26.0081), valid until 2031.
Demonstrated safety performance: Performance Level d (PL d), Category 2, with diagnostic coverage above 90%.
A component ready for integration: manufacturers can use the certificate to support their technical documentation and focus their efforts on integration into their machines.
End-to-end technological expertise: algorithms, electronics and embedded software designed and industrialised by Agreenculture in Toulouse.
Making satellite positioning reliable
GNSS was not designed for safety: signals can be degraded, reflected or disrupted without the receiver always reporting it. Demonstrating that a position is reliable enough to stop a machine before it leaves its working area, in an open environment and at PL d, is a challenge that very few companies have met.
Safencing® continuously monitors the machine’s position and the integrity of its positioning data. It sends a stop command when the machine leaves its working area, is about to leave it, or whenever the system can no longer reliably rule out either situation.

Safencing® keeps the autonomous machine within its designated working area in open environments.
“With Safencing®, we reached a major milestone: demonstrating the reliability of our positioning technology for a safety-critical function. This achievement relies on years of development and an in-depth analysis of the system architecture and associated risks.”
Emmanuel Goua de Baix – Cofounder and GNSS Expert
Safety-Certified Geofencing: What It Means for Manufacturers
Being certified for a GNSS-based safety function requires years of development, documentation and technical reviews with a notified body. By integrating Safencing®, manufacturers can build on a component already assessed by an independent third party: their own demonstration focuses on integrating the stop command into their machines. The path to market becomes shorter and more predictable.
“We developed the hardware and software that enable this safety function: safety-certified geofencing. This certification recognizes the team's rigorous collective effort, from specifications to testing, with full traceability and documentation at every stage.”
Caroline Acanfora – Head of Embedded Systems and Algorithms
Expertise beyong agriculture
The same challenges arise wherever autonomous machines operate in open environments: logistics, mining, airports, robotic valet parking, as well as materials handling and construction. Agreenculture offers manufacturers in these sectors its expertise in safety-related positioning and certification to accelerate their own autonomy projects.
“An autonomous machine that works is only halfway there: you also need to prove that it is safe. With Safencing®, we have demonstrated to a notified body that satellite positioning can perform a safety function. We are now making this expertise available to manufacturers in agriculture and in every sector where autonomy needs to move beyond enclosed sites.” Clément Baron, Cofounder and Chief Technology Officer of Agreenculture
Meet Agreenculture at EIMA
The Agreenculture team will be at EIMA International in Bologna on 10 & 11 November 2026. Manufacturers interested in discovering Safencing® or discussing their autonomy projects can arrange a meeting by emailing commercial@agreenculture.fr.
